How was Gaston Lagaffe’s famous car born?

In 1957, the memorable character of Gaston Lagaffe appeared for the first time in the pages of Spirou and Fantasio, before becoming the hero of his own comic strip. A lover of technical inventions, the famous office boy has the opportunity to exercise his mechanical talents on cars during his multiple adventures.

It was in 1962 that the designer Franquin offered his first car to Gaston Lagaffe : a Citroën 5 HP! The creator of the comic strip hopes that by seeing his drawings, the Citroën brand will give him a DS free of charge. But realizing that this car does not arrive, he then equips his antihero with a yellow and black Fiat 509 which, upon its appearance, needs repair! Gaston Lagaffe's famous vehicle has marked popular culture since its appearance. At the wheel of this small two-door car, Gaston makes it the apotheosis of slowness! We also see him in several albums, caught up by agent Longtarin who is riding a bicycle.
